Below is a review of Trampling the Host by Christophe Spzajdel, logo designer / artist extraordinaire, taken from his myspace blog:
IPSISSIMUS is a USBM band with a strong feeling of both brutality and melody, reviving me some elements of the good oldf Scandinavian, especially black metal like early Dissection but also Korp, old Marduk and Dark Funeral, Dark Throne....with some slowed down warrior marches like in "Hircus Comissationis Saevae Validas Niger". This first song pictures me like a procession of dark wizards in the snow. "the First Secret of fatima" which is much faster and more mysterious, still enhanced with this crisp, dry, harsh white zinfandel finish on the palate. "Praise Him" is more guttural and even more tantalizing than the two first songs. I especially love the mid paced drumming and these guitar riffs that come to tickle your palate... Vocals are also very diversified, from high pitched black metal to more deep growling vocals...making of this demo a very pleasant release to be enjoyed on its own or with a glass of crisp, dry white wine...or live on stage! Think of a zesty feel of green grape, lemon and lime that is so caracteristic to IPSISSIMUS versatile music. In The meantime, Ipsissimus have a new promo out...check on
